MAC lipsticks!

Building up your Make-up kit can be pretty expensive, but it is so worth it! I am gradually building up my Lipstick collection. I absolutely love MAC lipsticks, they have such a great range of colours... So, firstly, I have "Saint Germain" which is a gorgeous sugary pink, it is a bit of a risky colour to wear, but with really dark smokey eyes, it looks beautiful!!

Next up is "Lickable", a vibrant party pink! It is such a rich colour. The perfect going out evening lipstick! It leaves the lips feeling very soft!

This one is called "Twig", a wonderful deep pink shade, great for day wear!! It gives the lips a very soft, plump look. It is definitely a good shade to have in your kit!

This one is called "Hug me", it is a gorgeous natural nude shade. Like "Twig", it is great for day wear and also to carry in your kit! This one looks beautiful with a peachy, shimmery gloss over it!

I will hopefully be back on here with a few more shades soon!!!

Era look 40's

So, we all know the Marilyn Monroe look...right?

Once you get a hang of these few simple pointers, this is a look that will never get old!

  • The base of your make-up should be almost exactly the same as your skin tone, 40's make-up was about waxy, flawless bases. Almost doll-like!
  • Eye make-up sounds very simple, but doing gel eye liner flicks can take a while to get the hang of! Simply sweep the jet black gel eye liner across your lash line, leaving a little flick at the end. The idea was to create the look of thicker lashes. Once this is done, brush a light beige colour all over the lid and then define the socket line with a light brown colour. Brush your mascara wand upwards and outwards.
  • The brows should be very defined and arched the compliment the eyes.
  • The lips- Well we all know what colour they are going to be!! Bright vibrant red! Always use a lip liner and colour the lips in before you apply lipstick, this will prevent lipstick from bleeding and fading. Marilyn Monroe's make-up artist Allan "Whitey" Snyder would spend up to an hour on Marilyn's lips alone!
  • What is known as "Cupid's bow" (The "v" shape on the upper lip) was not defined, it was a very smooth curve.
Now all you need is a glam dress and some pretty accessories!!

Bridal Make-up

The beautiful Katherine modeled for my bridal make-up, luckily, she had a gorgeous white graduation dress! The veil I used was from a Halloween outfit I wore a couple of years ago! (Shhhhh!)

So firstly, the before picture....

I started with a Prep and Prime primer by MAC to smooth out katherine's skin, starting from the nose and blending outwards. I then applied MAC face and body foundation (C3 tinted with white face and body). I mainly applied the foundation to Katherine's T-zone, it is nice to leave the cheek bones and U-zone quite product free to leave a dewy glow. I rolled translucent powder on the T-zone (Rolling the powder sets the make-up better, especially on oily skin.)

I then began the eye make-up. I used a beige base all over the lid, a light pink shimmer shadow on the inner corners of the eye lid, blending out. I used a deep purple matte shadow and followed the socket line and blended upward towards the brow bone. I added  deep purple powder eye liner on the upper and lower outer lash line. A little highlighter on he brow brow and lastly, some volumising mascara. I used an angled brush and natural brown eye shadow to fill in Katherine's brows, I just defined the line under the brow.

I used a soft pink powder blush on Katherine's cheek bones, giving her a really fresh look. For her lips I used a deep soft pink lipstick and a shimmery pink gloss, very natural colours, so if the make-up fades throughout the wedding day, it won't be so noticable.

A few tips for Bridal make-up:
  • OBVIOUSLY, use water-proof mascara!
  • Try to avoid glittery, or overly shimmery eye shadows, as they can crease!
  • Primers/foundations with SPF should be avoided, as in photo's they can cause a shine on the skin!
  • If you're using a deep shade of lipstick, make sure the bride has that exact lipstick with her throughout the day!
  • Highlight the areas of the face that stand out, e.g brow bones and cheek bones.

A before and after!

This is my model (Josephine- My mum!) She was kind enough to let me do a make-over on her, which included the dreaded before picture! So, here goes....
Now, I will reveal the after picture shortly! To start of Josephines make-over, I moisturised her skin and left it for 5 minutes before applying a silicone based MAC primer. Foundation can be applied straight after the Primer, so I went ahead and used C3 face and body by MAC, spreading it from her nose and blending outwards. After I had achieved a natural base, I applied Concealer, I used a mix of Maxfactor Panstick and Select moisture cover by MAC, I applied this around the eyes, nose and chin. To finish the base, I dusted Translucent powder (MAC) all over the face (If you have oily skin, you should roll the brush on the skin, pressing the powder in, this way, it will last longer and also mattify the skin.). I then moved on to Josephine's eye make-up. I used a beige base to prepare the eye lid for the shimmery blue powder I was about to apply. The blue colour covered the eye lid, adding a dark brown in the socket line, blending upwards to the brow bone. A dark brown powder, applied with a definition brush, was used as eye liner on the top upper and lower lash lines. Volumising jet black mascara (Volume instante- MAC) was added to finish off the eye make-up.

(Tip- Always apply a highlighter under the eyebrow, on the brow bone. It really makes such a difference! Also, applying a light beige colour (Shroom by MAC is a godsend) to the inner corner of the eye can really make the eyes stand out!)

I moved on and started the blush, I used a soft pick powder blush and applied to the cheek bones and blended outwards and upwards, adding a small bit of highlighter to the cheek bones. I also Bronzed her neck. the neck is always a couple of shades lighter than the face, so bronzer can take the tone down a notch.

On to the lips! I used a natual colour lip liner (one that is very similar to the actual colour of your lips) and blended it down on to the top and bottom lip. I then used a natural nude moisturising lipstick and a small bit of shimmery clear gloss to finish! She liked the look, I hope you do too!!
